East Memphis has a new restaurant in the heart of the business corridor.
Pimento’s Kitchen + Market – a sister brand to Holiday Deli and Ham Co. – will open at its 6450 Poplar Ave. home on Wednesday, Oct. 26. The new Pimento's location will be the first in Memphis.
“We wanted something really fresh,” said Trey Jordan, owner of Pimento’s Kitchen + Market. “Fresh look, fresh new name, fresh new concept and fresh new food, and I think we have absolutely nailed it. We’ve got something for anybody in the city, whether it is breakfast, lunch or dinner.”
The menu will feature everything from baked oatmeal, strawberry French toast and a fried egg breakfast burrito called the Memphis egg roll to shrimp BLTs, a variety of pimento cheese items and a meat carving station.
Located in the recently built retail center adjacent to International Paper Co., the 4,800-square-foot restaurant has seating for 120 people inside and 50 on the patio.
“Poplar Avenue is main street Memphis,” Jordan said. “If you pick the place where most office buildings are in the city of Memphis – high density – it is right here at Poplar and Massey, and we are not too far from Poplar and Massey. … Two thousand five hundred employees at International Paper literally have the ability to walk here, so that is not a bad place to be.”
Menu items range anywhere from $6 to $14, and like the “market” in its name indicates, there are to-go items that can be purchased at the restaurant via a separate entrance. More than 50 people were hired initially to staff the restaurant, but that number will settle at around 35 to 40 employees.
After its Oct. 26 debut, Pimento’s regular hours of operation will be Monday to Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Catering is available.
“What we have done, is I call this the 2.0 version of Holiday [Deli and Ham Co.],” Jordan said.
