Huey's picks the location for its ninth restaurant

A Memphis burger dynasty will expand to Millington.

Huey’s Restaurants will open its ninth Memphis area location at 8570 U.S. Highway 51 in mid-April of 2017.

“We have actually been looking at Millington for several years,” said Lauren McHugh Robinson, president and CEO of Huey’s Restaurants. “We felt like the timing was good to do this because the population in the surrounding areas has grown, and it is far enough away from our existing locations that we did not think it would cannibalize existing locations.”

McHugh Robinson said they hope the new location will not only draw customers from Millington but from nearby towns like Atoka and Munford.

Roughly 60 people will be hired to staff the location. That process is expected to start in January. Hollis Ranson, a former general manager with Huey’s Southaven and Huey’s Collierville, will assume the GM position for Huey’s Millington.

A building permit valued at an even $1 million was filed for the project Nov. 3. Benjamin Witt was listed as the architect, and the general contractor has not been finalized. There are currently four bids out for the contract. Those are due back Dec. 1.

Founded in 1970 by Alan Gary, Thomas Boggs bought into the restaurant in 1976 and grew the company into a Memphis must. Today, the restaurant is still owned and operated by Boggs’ family.
