If you want an old-fashioned Christmas meal without authentic, you know, effort on your part (I’m in), here’s what you can do: Call Phyllis Coleman at Madea’s by Dec. 20, tell her what you want, and pick it up Dec 23. Heat before serving.
“I’ll make anything anyone wants, as long as it’s something I do,” Coleman said. “I’m not going to say I can make something I can’t and ruin somebody’s Christmas.”
She’ll talk with you about smoked or deep-fried turkeys, Cornish hens, hams, yams, dressing, gravy, desserts — the whole works — and give you a price based on what you want and how many you need to feed. It’s all to order, but she said a 17- to 20-pound smoked turkey is about $50. Call her at 901-474-9631; the address is 2665 Overton Crossing.
Here are some other choices, plus a list of places open on Christmas Day.
The Bar-B-Q Shop, 1782 Madison Ave., offers 12- to 14-pound smoked turkeys for $45.95. Order by Friday for pickup Dec. 23 1-9 p.m. Call 901-272-1277.
