With all the great things going on in the 901 these days, have you ever been overwhelmed with choices? Well, you’re in luck! We’ve put together a weekly post called The Weekender, filled with a handy schedule to help you hit some of our best bets for an amazing weekend. You can follow this schedule to a T, or use it as a launching point to plan your own adventure! The Weekender is not meant to be exhaustive, but will include our suggestions to help you plan the weekend ahead. 

 

Friday, September 9th

  • 12pm – Start the weekend early with Food Truck Friday at the Dixon or spend the day at the Delta Fair
  • 5pm – Catch some free porch tunes at Shelby Farms Park, enjoy drinks and music with friends at Fourth Bluff Fridays, go to Opening Reception: The Weight of Hope, Cocktails for a Cause, Art on Tap, or Katie McWeeney Powell’s “Questions” reception
  • 7pm – See the North MS Allstars at Levitt Shell, watch movies at the Outflix Film Festival or the Unreal Film Festival, play Blair Witch Trivia at High Cotton, see Words Matter as part of the Mid-South Book Festival, or go to Wiseacre’s 3D 3rd Birfday Party
  • 8pm – Play bingo at Memphis Made, enjoy live music at Otherlands, or go to “Out of the Closet” 10 minute play festival

 

Saturday, September 10th

  • 8am – Start your morning at the Downtown Farmer’s Market or the Cooper Young Farmer’s Market
  • 9am – Go to the Southern Heritage Classic parade then the Battle of the Bands, watch movies at the Outflix Film Festival, spend the day at the Mid-South Book Festival or the Germantown Festival
  • 11am – Take the kids to see The Magic Tree by Hattiloo Theatre (free) or take your furry friend for a wash at Hollywood Feed to benefit St Jude
  • 12pm – See the School of Rock perform or go to the Southern Junkers Vintage Market at Overton Square
  • 1:30pm – Go Spinning for Streets
  • 3pm – Check out a poetry slam
  • 4pm – Watch more movies at the Unreal Film Festival or see an Aerial Performance at Shelby Farms Park
  • 6pm – Go to the Southern Heritage Classic Football game, see Civil Twilight at the Levitt Shell, see Ballet Memphis perform Carnival of the Animals, watch Opera Memphis perform, go to Phare Cambodian Circus, or Wiseacre’s 3D 3rd Birfday Party
  • 6:30pm – Take your teens to a free open mic event hosted by Hattiloo Theatre and the Grizzlies Foundation
  • 7:30pm – See Booker T Jones perform at the Halloran Centre, Sturgill Simpson at the Orpheum, or go to“Out of the Closet” 10 minute play festival
  • 9pm – Catch more live music at the Buccaneer

 

Sunday, September 11th

  • 12pm – Take the family by the last day of the Delta Fair, the Germantown Festival, the Southern Junkers Vintage Market at Overton Square, watch movies at the Outflix Film Festival, or go to the Food Truck Rodeo + Beer Garden at Shelby Farms Park
  • 2pm – Go Inside the Collection at the Metal Museum, see Tangled Intentions, or go to “Out of the Closet” 10 minute play festival
  • 3pm – Catch some movies at the Unreal Film Festival
  • 4pm – Remember September 11th
  • 7pm – See Delta Rae at the Levitt Shell
