Thanksgiving to go in Memphis: Bring these dishes from the restaurant to your table

'Tis the season for festive and delicious food that brings family and friends together to celebrate. So give yourself a little slack and considering ordering a dish or two — or even a whole Thanksgiving feast — from a Memphis-owned establishment.

Below is a sampling of some Memphis-area restaurants that can help you with everything from the turkey to the pumpkin pie.

For Thanksgiving, Felicia Willett, chef and owner of Felicia Suzanne’s, serves some of her restaurant's most loved dishes for your holiday table. Choose from dishes such as sausage and cornbread dressing, oyster dressing, sweet potato casserole with pecan crumble, and her BBQ Southern collard greens.

“These recipes are ones my mother used to make for our family,” she said.

Willett will also prep your turkey for you, offering both a traditional and spicy dry brine.

If you are having house guests for the weekend, there are a couple items on her menu for entertaining, including Willett's famous smoked salmon deviled eggs, and her chicken and sausage gumbo.

Curb Side Casseroles owner Bradford Williams has built her whole business on making dinnertime stress-free, so it’s no surprise she offers a wide selection of appetizers and sides to help make your Thanksgiving meal stress-free as well.

“We don't have one specialty for Thanksgiving dinner, all of our items are special because they are our family recipes," Williams said. "I think people keep coming back to Curb Side because we don't make anything we wouldn't serve our own families.”

Curb Side has 15 different sides on its Thanksgiving menu this year, everything you need from cornbread dressing to sweet potatoes with praline topping to sweet corn pudding.

Hog Wild – Real Memphis Barbeque & A Moveable Feast Catering offers smoked spiral-sliced hams, smoked whole turkeys and turkey breasts, deep fried whole turkeys and a selection of all the traditional side items at Thanksgiving each year.

“Honestly I have never tasted a better ham or smoked turkey breast anywhere,” owner Ernie Mellor said. “The turkey breast can be served by itself or use it as an add-on to supplement your whole smoked turkey. And don’t forget to order some cornbread dressing. Our dressing is probably better than your grandmother’s. It rocks.”

Katie Oelke knows why her customers order her Thanksgiving offerings year after year.

“It’s because we use our own home recipes," she said. "We make these dishes just like we would if we were cooking for own Thanksgiving dinner.”

In addition to all the traditional Thanksgiving trimmings, Katie’s Kitchen is also offering everything you need to entertain house guests in her “Black Friday Brunch” menu.  Items like sausage balls, cinnamon rolls and breakfast casserole can be kept in your freezer until you are ready to thaw, heat and serve.

The Cupboard Restaurant

The Cupboard Restaurant is known for its Southern home-style cooking. The fresh vegetables that have fans going back on a regular basis will be available by the gallon for your Thanksgiving table.

In addition, it will offer a flame-glazed spiral-sliced ham and turkey with homemade dressing.

If you decide you just don’t want to deal with dirty dishes but want a Thanksgiving feast, The Cupboard will be open from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Thanksgiving Day.

The bakers at Muddy’s Bake Shop are in full swing the week before Thanksgiving, whipping up cakes, pies, cookies, cupcakes and bars for holiday dessert tables.

“Although our Shady Wake pecan pie is an absolute customer favorite around the holidays, I cannot wait to share our updated pumpkin pie," Muddy’s owner Kat Gordon said. "We've added a dash of Chinese five-spice to our traditional pumpkin filling, which keeps it from becoming cloyingly sweet and adds a warm and nuanced depth of flavor to the pumpkin. It tastes decadently delicious paired with our scratch-made, all-butter crust.”

Corky’s Ribs & BBQ

In addition to smoking ribs, Corky’s also smokes some pretty tasty turkeys and hams for your holiday table. Options include whole turkeys, turkey breasts and honey-baked spiral-sliced hams.

“Our most popular holiday item is the smoked whole turkey,” owner Barry Pelz says. “Each turkey is rubbed with our special seasonings and then slow-cooked in our pits over hickory logs.”

Corky's is also offering a few traditional sides if you don’t want to be making every casserole on your table this year.

Order a la carte or one of their “Feast” menu options that include the meat of your choice, two sides and giblet gravy. Pickup is available at all their locations.

The Pie Folks

With a name like “Slap Yo Mama” chocolate pie, you know that must be a good pie worthy of your Thanksgiving table.

In addition to chocolate pie, The Pie Folks bakery also offer almost 20 pies that can ordered for the holiday. Traditional holiday offerings include Mammaw’s apple pie, Good Googa Mooga pecan pie, Haywagon Ride pumpkin pie and Tato Patch sweet potato pie. Gluten-free pies are also available.

Chef and owner Audra Anderson wants you to know you can also make her Banana Cream Pie at home.  

“We sell our banana cream pie filling at Kroger stores right next to the bananas,” she said. “All you have to do is also pick up a graham cracker crust, a banana and some whipped topping and you can make your own homemade version.”

Memphis Barbecue Company is focusing on just the main course for your holiday table, offering smoked turkeys and double-smoked spiral-cut hams for Thanksgiving and Christmas. 

“For both items, we add our World Championship Barbecue twist onto these holiday classics, ensuring great flavor for your family,” chef and owner Melissa Cookston said. Hers happens to be the only barbecue restaurant in the area with multiple World Championship titles.
