Sneak Peek: Overton Square's newest restaurant and bar

Though Hopdoddy Burger Bar is based in Austin, Texas, it's doing its best to make its soon-to-open Overton Square location feel Memphis-y.

The word "local" adorns the restaurant's exterior, and Hopdoddy brand manager Erin Fohn made a point to highlight the numerous menu items that will be unique to the Memphis location — a breakfast burger, a set of gourmet french fries, some milkshakes and multiple mixed drinks.

Y'all!! First of all, this place is BOMB but let me give you a full review before I start lusting! So, on yesterday (Wednesday, March 28, 2018) I had the opportunity to attend a community mixer for Hopdoddy Burger Bar and could even bring one guest! I decided to take one of the toughest critics I know, my mom! The mixer gave those in attendance the chance to preview the menu, atmosphere, and staff of the restaurant. I can't tell you how I got the invitation.

Nuha Abuduhair brings specialty bakery to Overton Square

Baking is both a family tradition and a form of stress relief for Nuha Abuduhair, proprietor of 17 Berkshire, Overton Square’s newest retail shop.

 “My mom always baked at home and had tons of cookbooks, and I’d look through them and stand next to her while she baked,” said Abuduhair, whose bakery will open this spring at 2094 Trimble Place, which formerly housed The Square Olive. “So, it was always fun for me. My mom was very creative. I joke that she was Pinterest before Pinterest existed … she was always crafty.”

Explore Bike Share Announces Locations for First 60 Stations

The locations of the first 60 stations for the bike-share system launching here in the spring were announced Wednesday by Explore Bike Share (EBS). 


The stations span from Uptown and Crosstown to Overton Square and Cooper-Young to Downtown and South Memphis. (See all 60 locations at the bottom of the page.)


“We’ve made an organizational commitment to create an equitable system that is affordable, available and sustainable,” Bike Share executive director, Trey Moore, said. “While we believe this site map reflects our mission wholeheartedly, we’re intentionally installing a system with malleable components to allow for potential shifting within neighborhoods or intersections as needed.

Explore Bike Share will stock 600 bikes at 60 stations across Memphis and West Memphis. The locations include Downtown, South Memphis, Cooper-Young, Orange Mound, Overton Square and Crosstown and were determined based on criteria including solar power accessibility, density, proximity to other transit options, neighborhood usage and suggestions from Memphians.

Explore Bike Share Reveals Station Locations

The launch of Explore Bike Share is getting closer with the nonprofit revealing Wednesday, March 28, the locations of the stations for the 600-bike system.

Explore Bike Share’s 60 stations span from Downtown, South Memphis and Cooper-Young to Orange Mound, Overton Square and Crosstown. The stations and bikes are being funded through a combination of donations from foundations and individuals, plus a $2.2 million federal Congestion Mitigation Air Quality grant, said Explore Bike Share executive director Trey Moore.

Explore Bike Share, a nonprofit bringing a 60-station, 600-bike bike share system to Memphis this spring, has revealed its station location map and official system brand and website.

Explore Bike Share’s 60 stations span from Downtown, South Memphis, and Cooper Young to Orange Mound, Overton Square, and Crosstown. Locations have been determined based on multiple criteria, including solar power accessibility, density, proximity to other transit options, neighborhood usage, and ongoing community engagement efforts. Ongoing neighborhood conversations, as well as a digital effort in late 2017 to capture pins on an interactive map of Memphis, resulted in over 3,500 “pins” submitted by citizens for potential station locations.

Sneak Peek at Hopdoddy

Doors were open in preview of Hopdoddy's Monday (April 2) opening. 

On the menu will be two items being launched in Memphis: the Lil' Doddy and the All-Day Breakfast burger. The former is a smaller patty that comes in a single or double, served with American cheese — a classic burger, says Erin Fohn, Hopdoddy's brand manager. The latter features a patty mix of sausage, beef, and ham with a potato "hay" for crunch, topped with a scrambled egg patty. 

Another thing to note is Hopdoddy's charitable partner through its Goodnight for a Good Cause program. They have chose Stax Music Academy to be the recipient. One dollar of every Goodnight Burger goes to the foundation.
