The Bar-B-Q Shop, located on Madison Ave. in Memphis, is a classic, Midtown Memphis barbecue joint with some deliciously tender slow smoked, dry-rubbed ribs and pulled pork. The Bar-B-Q Shop is a local, family-owned joint and is one of the highest rated barbecues in Memphis. They are also the founders of the original BBQ spaghetti and a great tourist restaurant to stop to try their award winning Dancing Pigs Bar-B-Q Sauce.

Downtown is a great place to be, but if you want to live like a local during your stay in Memphis, take Madison or Union east about 3.5 miles and explore the restaurants, shops, breweries, record stores and nightlife of Midtown. Cooper Street is the artery between Overton Square's theaters and restaurants on the north end and the more neighborhood-oriented Cooper-Young a few blocks south.  — David Royer

The 15 Best Places for a Barbecue in Memphis

The 15 Best Places for a Barbecue in Memphis

Lisa W: Get the platter with everything and split it with a friend. Damn good ribs and pulled pork. Not a fan of the BBQ spaghetti, sorry Memphis!

Kat Duffy: Pulled pork sandwich on Texas toast is glorious!

Emily Adams: Best BBQ in Memphis. Glazed ribs are to die for. Make sure you ask for your pork pulled instead of chopped on a sandwich. And get Texas Toast, not a bun.

Vintage 901

Vintage 901

One of the best food and wine events in Memphis takes place this weekend, and if you don't have your tickets to Vintage 901 yet, it's time to get them! Last, week I attended a preview of this event and can tell you, it's going to be a blast. Vintage 901, Memphis’ first-ever intimate wine event, kicks off March 10-12 and is the perfect weekend event for foodies and wine lovers. Even better, it takes place over three days, with three different locations, and three different price points – so there’s something for everyone!

East Buntyn ArtWalk 2017

East Buntyn ArtWalk 2017

This annual event features regional artists in an open-air bazaar of galleries set up in the front yards and porches of the historic East Memphis neighborhood. The outdoor galleries will display and sell work by neighborhood residents, as well as pieces by artists from around the Mid-South. Over 60 artists will showcase watercolors, oil paintings, photography, pottery, textiles, woodworking, jewelry, stained glass, and more.

The hub of ArtWalk, and the best starting place, is St. James Church. Located at 461 S. Prescott, the church is at the heart of the neighborhood, which is bordered by Central and Southern Avenues and Highland and Greer Streets. At the hub, visitors will find free maps pinpointing their favorite artists and their work. The headquarters will also host a silent auction tent, a children’s entertainment booth, continuous live entertainment from local musicians, and local food trucks.
