Later this year, the spacious white building in Overton Square will be something entirely new: an upscale “Southern-inspired” restaurant founded by Edward Bogard and co-owned by Lionel Hollins and Preston Butts. Yes, that Lionel Hollins. (!!)

Charitable BOGARD restaurant projects to fund 100,000 free meals in first year

The man who's opening BOGARD in Overton Square projects the restaurant will provide 100,000 free meals the first year through Mid-South Food Bank.

"BOGARD is the first of its kind,'' said Edward Bogard, philanthropist and founder of SoGiv. That's a six-year-old nonprofit company that designs, makes and sells shoes and gives the proceeds to more than 20 charitable foundations.

Lionel Hollins, nonprofit director team up on new Overton Square restaurant

Former Grizzlies coach Lionel Hollins is teaming up with the director of a local nonprofit to bring a new restaurant — and novel concept — to Overton Square.

The restaurant will serve "Southern-inspired" fare in the former Schweinehaus space, and the owners plan to donate 2 percent of net food sales* to the Mid-South Food Bank. They estimate the restaurant will earn more than $30,000 for the nonprofit in its first year.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The sound of Memphis is still hot, and some of its Grammy-winning stars were honored Tuesday at Lafayette’s in Overton Square.

Local Grammy winners and nominee were celebrated by the Recording  Academy’s Memphis chapter.

Kevin Kane, president of Memphis Convention and Visitor’s Bureau, welcomed the nominees and winners by saying that “the people coming out of the Memphis Chapter” recording academy are some of the best in the nation.

It will be called Porch & Parlor, from the folks behind Flight and Southern Social.

Bar Louie Space to Become Porch & Parlor

The team behind Flight restaurant Downtown and Southern Social in Germantown – Tom Powers and Russ Graham – are the new tenants for the cornerstone space in Overton Square occupied until recently by Bar Louie.

Loeb Properties Inc. announced Tuesday, April 10, that Porch & Parlor will begin the conversion of the Bar Louie space on the southwest corner of Madison and Cooper within the next month, describing it as “a fine-dining concept.”

The recipe she shared with us is the one she makes at home for her dad. “It’s based on the one we make at Muddy’s but with a twist,” she explains of this at-home version of her popular Shady Wake Pecan Pie. For the best pecan pie, Kat recommends using a really good buttery crust and toasting the pecans before adding them to the filling. To make it an extra special treat for your guests, serve it with bourbon-spiked whipped cream.
